Our methodology
The Clarity Harbor Method™
A repeatable, evidence-based approach for understanding the path to meaningful user value, identifying what deserves attention first, and determining whether the change worked.
The Clarity Harbor Method™ — the Clarity Lens™, the diagnostic sequence, the evidence and analysis standards, the prioritization logic and the quality standard — was founded and developed by Kirsten Alburg and is owned and maintained by Clarity Harbor.
How the Method is structured.
The Method™ is the broader methodology. The Clarity Lens™ is the core framework inside it. Together they make the analysis repeatable rather than a matter of opinion.
The Clarity Lens™
Five perspectives applied to the path to value, the same way in every engagement.
The diagnostic sequence
Baseline, diagnose, prioritize, hypothesize — a defined order, so the root cause gets named rather than guessed at.
The quality standard
Evidence and analysis standards, prioritization logic, and human expert review before any report is delivered.
The Outcome Loop the Method follows: BASELINE → DIAGNOSE → PRIORITIZE → HYPOTHESIZE → IMPLEMENT → MEASURE → LEARN.
The Clarity Lens™
The Clarity Lens™ is the framework Clarity Harbor uses to examine adoption paths consistently — the same five perspectives applied across every engagement.
The perspectives are used to interpret evidence, not to assign arbitrary scores. We don't assume a problem exists because a pattern is common — the evidence determines what the Diagnostic identifies.
You don't need to learn it. Whether the path involves a traditional interface, automation, AI assistance, or a combination of systems, the question stays the same: can people understand the next step, act with confidence, and reach meaningful value?
- OneClarity
Do users know what to do next?
- TwoConfidence
Do they believe they can take the next step?
- ThreeRelevance
Does the next step feel worth doing?
- FourMomentum
Does the experience keep them moving toward value?
- FiveEnvironment
Is something outside the product getting in the way?
Patterns we look for — when the evidence supports them.
These are recurring shapes adoption friction can take. We don't assume one applies to you. If the evidence doesn't support a pattern, the report says so.
The Cliff
Users hit a moment where the next step isn't obvious — and stop.
The Slow Fade
Engagement drifts away quietly, without a single visible break.
The Expertise Gap
Your product assumes knowledge your users don't yet have.
The Value Delay
The payoff lives too far past the work required to reach it.
The Invisible Win
Users succeed but never feel it — so the habit never forms.
First Meaningful Value
First Meaningful Value is the point at which a user experiences the outcome they adopted the product to achieve.
Users don't adopt products because they completed onboarding. They adopt products because they reached value.
Clarity Harbor identifies the First Meaningful Value moment for your product and examines what helps — or prevents — users from reaching it.
First Meaningful Value is defined specifically for each product and each user. It is not a standard metric, and it is rarely the same from one company to the next.
What it isn't
- Completing onboarding
- Creating an account
- Clicking through setup
- Logging in
- Completing a checklist
Those are steps. The question is whether the user actually reaches meaningful product value.
From diagnosis to measurable change
Clarity Harbor doesn't stop at identifying friction. We help your team understand what to change, why it matters, and how to determine whether the change actually helped.
- 01
Baseline
Understand where the path to value stands today.
- 02
Diagnose
Apply the Clarity Lens™ to identify what is helping or hindering progress.
- 03
Prioritize
Identify what deserves attention first.
- 04
Hypothesize
Define what should change if the diagnosis is correct.
- 05
Implement
Your team makes the recommended change.
- 06
Measure
Evaluate what happened after implementation.
- 07
Learn
Use the evidence to determine what should happen next.
Focused measurement, not metric overload.
A recommendation you can test.
Every Diagnostic identifies a recommended change and the measurable outcome it is intended to influence.
If we change X, we expect Y to improve because Z.
Example
If we simplify the first-success workflow, we expect more new users to reach First Meaningful Value because the current setup requirements create unnecessary friction before users experience the product's core benefit.
Example only. The hypothesis is written from your evidence, and it is a hypothesis — not a promised result.
Illustrative example.
- Primary outcome
- First Meaningful Value
- Baseline
- 34%
- Post-intervention
- 47%
- Change
- +13 percentage points
- Time to value
- 5.2 days → 2.4 days
- Intervention
- Simplified first-success workflow
- Evidence
- Product analytics + user feedback
Interpretation
More users reached the first meaningful outcome after the workflow was simplified.
Next step
Continue monitoring the first-success path and evaluate the next identified friction point.
Illustrative example only. Actual measures and outcomes vary by product. These figures are not Clarity Harbor client results.
Three sources of evidence
Not every engagement uses every source. The Diagnostic uses the evidence relevant to your question and the data you already have.
Behavioral
What users actually do.
- Activation
- Completion
- Drop-off
- Time to value
- Retention
- Workflow usage
Experience
What users experience and report.
- Interviews
- Surveys
- Support requests
- Usability observations
Environment
What happens around the product.
- Training
- Organizational processes
- Manager support
- Integrations
- Policies
- Workflow constraints
Understand the path. Find the friction. Prioritize the change. Measure what happens.

Clarity Harbor diagnoses and prioritizes. Your team implements. Together, the evidence shows what happens next.
Why not review the path yourselves?
You can. The tools aren't the hard part.
The hard part is proximity. Your team can't unsee its own funnel, so an internal review tends to reflect existing assumptions back.
Clarity Harbor approaches your product from the perspective of a new user, using a defined process designed to surface assumptions an internal team may no longer see — the same questions, applied the same way, every engagement.
No 80-page report. No fluff.
- Not a growth or marketing audit.
- Not a 12-week consulting engagement.
- Not a tool you have to learn or install.
- Not generic advice rebranded with your logo.
- Not a promise of a predetermined outcome.
- Not a substitute for your team's implementation.
- Not a dashboard full of metrics you don't need.
AI can analyze your product. Clarity Harbor helps you decide what the evidence means.
Because when the work you're building matters, the question isn't simply what could be improved. It's what deserves attention first — and whether the change actually helped more people reach the value you created for them.
Your team already has analytics, user research, product data, and increasingly powerful AI tools. The harder question isn't whether you can generate more observations.
It's knowing:
- Which observation matters
- Where the most consequential friction is
- What to change first
- Why that change is worth making
- What should happen if the diagnosis is correct
- How you'll know whether the change actually helped
Clarity Harbor provides an independent, evidence-based adoption assessment that turns those inputs into a prioritized decision and a measurement plan.

Adoption is changing.
As products become more intelligent, the path to value is becoming more complex.
Users may interact with software, automation, AI assistants, recommendations, agents, and human support — sometimes all within the same experience.
The question remains the same: are people actually reaching the value the product was built to provide?
Clarity Harbor evaluates that path from the user's perspective.
The pathway
Understand one moment. Then the whole path. Then whether the change worked.
Each stage is useful on its own. Most organizations start small, and many stop before the end — that is a normal, successful outcome, not a lost sale.
- 1. Explore
Clarity Snapshot™
FreeOne journey moment, assessed through five lenses.
What you get: A focused read on a single adoption moment and whether a broader question exists.
Then what: If the Snapshot points to something wider, the Diagnostic assesses the full path. If it doesn't, you're done.
Clarity Snapshot™ details - 2. Diagnose
Clarity Adoption Diagnostic™
$10,000The entire adoption journey, assessed through five lenses.
What you get: An Adoption Baseline, a prioritized decision, a Success Hypothesis, and a Measurement Plan you can act on.
Then what: Your team implements. That work is yours — we don't build or run the change.
Clarity Adoption Diagnostic™ details - 3. Implement
Client implementation
Your teamYou make the change the Diagnostic recommended.
What you get: A real change in the product or the onboarding experience, with a baseline to compare against.
Then what: Once the change is live, evidence exists. Measuring it is optional.
- 4. Evaluate
Clarity Outcome Review™
$1,750 – $2,000An independent read on what the implemented change did.
What you get: An evidence-based interpretation of what moved, what didn't, and what remains uncertain — plus what to do next.
Then what: Many organizations stop here, and that is a complete outcome.
Clarity Outcome Review™ details - 5. Monitor
Clarity Harbor Pulse™
$1,500 – $6,000 / monthRecurring evidence review against the established baseline.
What you get: Ongoing detection of change and drift, interpreted through the same methodology, on a predictable async cycle.
Then what: Continue, pause, or step away. Pulse is a subscription to interpretation, not a retainer for availability.
Clarity Harbor Pulse™ details - 6. Learn
Renewal, expansion, referral
OptionalWhat was learned informs the next question worth asking.
What you get: A decision about whether continued monitoring still earns its cost.
Then what: If it doesn't, we say so.
What stays true at every stage
- Every engagement is fixed-scope and async-first.
- We assess, interpret, prioritize and measure. Your team implements.
- No step is required to benefit from the one before it.
- Pulse is optional. Measuring internally after the Diagnostic is a valid, complete path.
- We don't promise outcomes. We commit to honest interpretation of the evidence.
Designed to solve a problem — not become another consulting engagement.
Clarity Harbor is intentionally fixed-scope, time-bounded, and primarily asynchronous.
- No daily Slack support
- No project management
- No implementation
- No unlimited meetings
- No embedded, employee-style support
- No open-ended consulting engagement
